Spring Run, PA_ With hours of extra effort, senior race director John Winsett of Two Wheel Promotions and his crew were able to tame the rain-soaked and rutted Path Valley Speedway Park quarter mile clay oval Saturday and smooth it enough for the regular Burris karts and quads races.
Failed efforts the night before to run the track in for the regular sprints and stock car Friday night races left it rough and rutted, but grading and leveling left the clay surface soft but smooth enough that Winged Outlaw karts winner Mark Hockenbroch commented, "This is one of our very favorite tracks in our touring series because it's so good to race on."
While the current points leaders won many features, one notable exception was in the Sr. Champ class where past champion Nicole Eaton of Mill Creek won in her first visit of the season. In Jr. Sportsman II Dakota Bear upset points leaders Matt Burger and Nathan Danner, and in Jr. Stock DJ Holland of Claysburg remained undefeated.
Karts and four-wheelers race weekly on the full Path Valley quarter-mile under the sponsorship of Burris Racing. Gates open at 10 a.m. with warm-ups by noon every Saturday. The winged outlaws return in August, and 16 or more classes for all age and skill levels race weekly. The August 9 race for the Winged Outlaws will be race number four of their eight-race touring series.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111. For information on the 2003 schedule and rules, race teams and fans can consult the website at www.pathvalley.com or they can email Two Wheel Promotions at twp@pathvalley.com.
