Bears Seize Checkers in Path Valley Karting

Spring Run, PA_ Siblings Autumn, Dakota and Colton Bear of Elliottsburg all won Burris Karting feature races Saturday at the Path Valley Speedway Park.

The Bear wins started with Colton, the youngest in his #74, outracing Derek Sheaffer ahead of the big field in Jr. Sportsman I karts. Then Dakota in his #9 beat Ryan Laye with a last lap pass in the Jr. Sportsman II class. Finally, to seal the triple-header, Autumn in her adult Animal class #25 beat David Hoffman to the line well ahead of a strong field of experienced racers.

Upset wins are rare in kart racing, but Craig Shaffer of Bedford beat Pete Neuder to the line in the Sr. Champs class and in Four-Wheelers Craig Robinson of Ft. Loudon beat Dane Delancey of Port Royal.

In preparation for the next day's PDKS racing toward the state championship, Tracy Blumenstein won in an Open class race.

Two Wheel Promotions announced that the scheduled Burris Karting rain date Oct. 16 has been cancelled so that competitors can attend the special races at the Silver Springs Speedway. Burris Racing sponsored karts and four-wheelers race every other Saturday to the evening Go-Kart Finale Oct. 23.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track is 717-349-7111.

For information on the 2004 schedule and rules, race teams and fans can consult the track's website at www.pathvalley.com or they can email Two Wheel Promotions at twp@pathvalley.com.
