Patodia beats Ravindra to inaugural IndiKarting title
Pune’s Aanjan Patodia became the inaugural JK Tyre IndiKarting champion after triumphing over Aaroh Ravindra in the final round at Greater Noida.
Patodia started the season on a strong note, winning two races in the opening round of the championship in Pune.
He followed that result with a triple win in Goa, placing him well on top of the standings. But by mid-season, his campaign started to fall apart, giving rise to Ravindra.
The Mumbai-born driver stepped up against Patodia, winning races in both Round 3 (Vadodara) and 4 (Ludihana) to move to the lead of the championship.
However, a jump start in the first race of the season finale proved to be his death knell, stripping him of his third place result.
Although he tried to make up for the disqualification with a victory in race two, it wasn’t going to prove enough to outscore Patodia.
The Pune-based driver, by virtue of wins in Race 1 and 3, claimed the title, winning a free drive in the JK Tyre National Karting Championship with Bangalore's Rahul Saran completing the top three.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Kurikose won the Pro Junior title, beating Aditya Joshi in second, followed by Vadodara's Mira Erda.
In the Pro Cadet class, it was Aadityansh Kaulshi who came first after the five-round season, with Hoshmand Elavia and Saatvik Kogileti finishing second and third in the standings respectively.
Speaking at the conclusion of the campaign, Sanjay Sharma, motorsport head, JK Tyre said: “The idea behind this series was to promote karting among the masses and this series has achieved just that. "
"We are sure that this initiative will prove to be a milestone in unearthing and promoting new talent in the country.”
Rayomand Banajee, promoter of IndiKarting commented: "The five Round JK Tyre IndiKarting National Series has achieved our goal of opening up motorsports to the masses."
"The huge number of entries & the fact that over 65% participating in any form of motorsport for the first time is proof," he added, thanking JK Tyres and Tata Motors for the support.
