PDKS banquet rescheduled due to weather
02.04.2010 -- This weekend's PDKS awards banquet has been rescheduled for Saturday, March 27, due to the impending snowstorm forecasted for the south-central Pennsylvania area. PDKS feels that for the safety of all its racers and their families, this is the safest decision series officials could make given the circumstances.
Please help spread the word to any PDKS family planning on attending the banquet so no one travels unnecessarily.
Contact PDKS Treasurer Caroline Ensor at 717-469-1177 for more information. To visit the PDKS Web site, go to www.padirtkart.com.

Russell Karting is the new Gold Cup Series sponsor
02.04.2010 -- Raymore, Missouri-based Russell Karting Specialties, Inc. is the new title sponsor for the 2010 WKA Gold Cup Series. The news was announced Saturday night at the combined banquet for the Gold Cup and Speedway Pavement Series after Bully Clutches notified WKA it would not be returning as the Gold Cup Series sponsor. WKA's only 4-cycle national sprint tour will now be titled the Russell Karting Gold Cup Series.
Russell joins Briggs & Stratton, Bridgestone, Dunlop Tire and Mazda as WKA's national series sponsors. Dunlop, the title sponsor of the Road Racing Series driven by Mazda, is the tire that Russell is the exclusive U.S. importer.
Russell Karting's Jim Russell Jr. offered some comments about his company's new association with one of WKA's oldest and most historic national touring series.
"We're pleased to help WKA and ourselves grow karting and rebound back to what it once was. The Gold Cup Series needs growth, consistency and a high competition level, and we're happy to help WKA in trying to continue that. I think if we can all work together to bring new people into the sport, it will be beneficial for WKA, its current racers and karting businesses around the country," Russell said.
Russell Karting is a family-owned kart shop that has been in business for 51 years. Russell is an importer for Dunlop Tires, IBEA Carburetors, Komet, Parilla, Leopard, BM, Sirio Craft Satou Carbon Fiber Seats, Rocket Racing Chassis, Mike Wilson Racing Chassis, Semel Tire Machines and Xeramic Lubricants.

WKA would like to thank Kermit Buller and Bully Clutches for their support through the 2009 season.

Spec Oil, Fuel Program to continue in Road Racing, Manufacturer's Cup
02.04.2010 -- In 2009 WKA expanded its 2-cycle Spec Oil and Fuel Program to include both the Road Racing and Manufacturer's Cup Series. With its success, WKA will continue this program in the 2010 competition season.
The Spec Oil Program will once again consist of all classes in the Manufacturer's Cup Series and the following Sprint Road Racing classes: Junior Sprint, Piston Port Can Sprint, WKA Sprint, Spec 125 TaG, Stock Honda, Stock Leopard and TaG. Competitors will be required to use fuel supplied at the track and one of several spec lubricants.
To be approved, the lubricant must meet the following requirements: must be widely recognized and distributed, must be a manufactured lubricant, professionally bottled (no home brewed oils) and must not contain any performance enhancing additives.
If you have an interest in submitting a spec oil for the 2010 racing season, please contact Van Gilder at 229-339-4414 or by e-mail at van@worldkarting.com.

Former WKA Manufacturer's Cup champion makes NASCAR headlines
02.04.2010 -- Sergio Pena, who competed in the George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda as recently as 2006, made national racing headlines Saturday in Irwindale, Calif., when he finished second to Joey Logano in the Toyota All-Star Showdown in front of a sold-out crowd at Toyota Speedway.
At only 16 years old, Pena traded the lead with Logano throughout the 225-lap affair and nearly stole the win from the NASCAR Sprint Cup star. The race marked Pena's NASCAR debut after only one season of late-model stock car racing. The Winchester, Virginia, driver was driving for Revolution Racing and Drive for Diversity, and most certainly turned numerous heads in the NASCAR and auto racing industry with his fine effort.
Pena wasn't the only former Manufacturer's Cup champion to run well at Irwindale. Paulie Harraka joined Pena in the top 10 with a solid ninth-place finish in the All-Star Showdown.
Pena competed on the Manufacturer's Cup tour in the mid-2000s. He won the 2004 Cadet national championship and nearly won a Triple Crown championship that year, finishing second in two other classes. Harraka last competed on the Man Cup tour in 2005.
A host of other past and current WKA racers are making news in other forms of racing, be it local, regional or national. To revisit years past and see how these drivers did when WKA karting was their primary focus, visit the archived season standings page (www.worldkarting.com/pg/series/season_archives.html) on WorldKarting.com. Archived point standings for all of WKA's national series go back to 1993.
