PKC-S: Phil Giebler Racing Rosamond summary

Lindsey 2nd, Giebler 3rd, Cricca 4th in SKUSA Pro Kart Challenge South on Streets of Willow

Devin Lindsey finished second, Phil Giebler third and Shawn Cricca fourth in the Tag Senior main event for Phil Giebler Racing at the Superkarts! USA Pro Kart Challenge South Round 4 on the Streets of Willow at Willow Springs International Motorsports Park in Rosamond, Calif., on May 15.

Lindsey, a 16-year-old from Highland, Calif., finished 4.362 seconds behind Scott Saunders in the 16-lap race on the 1.8-mile course, the longest and fastest track the team will race on this year where speeds approach 100 miles per hour. Giebler, of Huntington Beach, Calif., was 6.737 back of the winner and Cricca, of Simi Valley, Calif., was 6.997 behind in the 18-kart field. They all drove FA Karts powered by 125cc water-cooled Vortex Racing engines built by Daniel Patino's D Power Engines of Huntington Beach, Calif., and were on MG tires.

"We had a strong event with three karts in the top four," team owner Giebler said. "It was Devin's first race with our team and he adapted very well to our kart, engine and tire package."

Giebler edged Lindsey for fastest qualifier by .006 of a second. Shawn Cricca was sixth, Chris Cricca 10th and Travis Lowe 13th in qualifying.

Giebler won the first 10-lap heat race and Lindsey was second.

"We used teamwork to stay ahead of the pack," Giebler explained.

Shawn Cricca was fifth, Chris Cricca, of Simi Valley, Calif., was seventh and Lowe, of Pasadena, Calif., was 12th in the first heat.

Lindsey won the second heat with Shawn Cricca second and Giebler, who drove the entire race with one hand because the other was holding a broken radiator mount. Lowe finished 11th and Chris Cricca had a DNF.

Chris Cricca and Lowe also failed to finish the main event.

Phil Giebler Racing's Noah Grey finished fourth in the MiniMax class 16-lap main event, which had eight starters. The 10-year-old from Dana Point, Calif., missed practice because of school commitments. Grey also qualified in fourth position and finished both 10-lap heats in fourth.

"Noah did a good job considering he wasn't able to practice," Giebler said.

Phil Giebler Racing, based in Orange, Calif., will next compete in Round 4 of the SKUSA Pro Kart Challenge North on June 11-12 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif.
