Shane Morressey from Cuba City, WI, won the 5th Annual Purple Shootout at Joliet Memorial Stadium on Sunday, August 20th. The event, which marks the end of the season at the Stadium, gathered 17 of the best young drivers in the Midwest. The race for the top four spots was a close one, with Morrissey being tailed by last year’s winner, Jeff Everts, Landon Cassill and Tanner Bohlen. The top four finished the 25 lap feature less than 4 kart lengths apart and gave the huge spectator crowd something to cheer about. There were races throughout the field with one of the most hotly contested between Corey Domenick and Adam Carlson who mixed it up for fifth and sixth. Today’s race also featured two brand new drivers, Clarissa Rhoades and Marly Mooi who made a good showing in their first race. The Purple Shootout dashes were some of the most exciting racing of the day. In the A Dash, Shane Morrissey got off to a big lead and never looked back. The results of the A Dash were Morrissey, Corey Domenick, Jeff Everts, Adam Carlson, Landon Cassill, and Nick Baran finishing first through sixth. The B Dash was won by Tyler Baran, followed closely by Ray Mooi, Tyler Bohlen, Clay Kliem, Gina Mooi and Clarissa Rhoades. Mickey Kuldicki took home his first victory in the C Dash. Michael Smith, Peter Byrne and Brett Adams finished second through fourth respectively. These young drivers did a great job and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship in this very competitive event. In other action, in the 10th stop of the Burris Circle Tour, Jamie Rediehs pulled out a narrow victory in the feature. The day started with a four wide finish in the first heat race . Jay Gough held on to the lead, but Rediehs made a gusty move in the last straight-a-way to take second place away from Mark Johnon and Josh Stahl. Less that a kart separated Gough, Redhies, Johnson and Stahl. The action continued in the second heat race with Rediehs and Johnson leading the field. Second through fifth were tight with David Byrne, Josh Stah, and Brian Muncy trading positions throughout the race. In the feature, Mark Johnson took an early lead with Rediehs right on his tail through the first ten laps. Then Rediehs made a move to the inside and made the pass stick for a few laps before Johnson took it back. Finally, with two laps to go, Rediehs made the pass again, and this time held on for the checkered flag. On the white flag lap David Byrne took advantage of an opening to finish a close third. The final results were Rediehs, Johnson, Byrne, Ceponis and Jay Gough finishing first through fifth. The next stop on the Burris Circle Tour will be Sunday, September 10th at Lake Geneva Raceway. The featured events for the day will be the Team race and a money race for the Super Mini Cup Cars. The pits open at 8:00, practice is at 10:00 and racing starts at 11:00. Come and join us for a day filled with competitive, fun family racing.
