Track racing 2006 : Gentlemen start your engines!

Montreal, Canada -- April 28, 2006 -- Sportimage.net -- Autodrome Saint-Eustache will officially launch the 2006 season of Federation de Sport Automobile du Quebec this Saturday April 29, 2006, as the first round of the Quebec championship takes to the track. With six championships in track racing, karting and solo, and six more championships independently sanctioned by FSAQ, the Quebec motorsports season will be a long and hotly disputed one.

The three disciplines will share 35 weekends of racing and 14 championships in which nearly 1,000 drivers will compete in their passion for speed all over the province.

New FSAQ General Manager Jean-Francois Ouellet, is ecstatic on the eve of the new season. "I can't wait to see all these passionate drivers as they get the green in the this first round of the track racing championship. Organizers, drivers and mechanics are full of adrenaline after all these months of rest," boasts Ouellet. "This is also the first weekend of karting as the first round of coupe de l'Est du Quebec gets under way at the Pointe-du-Lac kart track on Sunday. Just look at the 2006 schedule and you'll see that no one will be idle!", he added.

17 classes for three disciplines

Track racing is made up of various classes: Touring, GTO/GTU/GTX, Formula Tour 1600, Echo Pirelli Cup and the Civic Championship, which offer a wide variety of vehicles. From open-wheelers to tourism cars, from big engine cars to monotype series, one is certain to enjoy a good show at every race. To have 150 drivers competing in every event brings quite a climax, especially when one knows that there will be only one winner per class per weekend.

Besides being a leisure sport, karting is also a hotly disputed competitive racing series. This year, it is hosting three highly considered championships: Championnat du Quebec, Coupe de Montreal and Coupe de l'Est du Quebec. On average, there will be 125 drivers competing in every event. Championnat du Quebec will be held on the Saint-Roch-de-l'Achigan kart track, which has hosted a World Karting Championship round, as well as the Canadian Championship. Always spectacular, even if it's run off championship, the urban race in the streets of Trois-Rivières at the end of July, is a must. Karting encompasses eight classes and including the Rotax and Honda classes.

Solo is first and most an amateur racing activity that people enjoy for the sheer fun of driving a sports car on a race course, with other race fans. So talent and the knowledge of one's car are a perk to make it through the various course obstacles.
