Leading Edge Motorsports sets 2002 Racing Campaign

Lewis and Weeks step up to SuperPro in 2002 SKUSA Championship

Lodi, CA - Leading Edge Motorsports & Greg Bell will have a slight change in his always successful race team heading into the 2002 race season with Tyler Lewis and Courtney Weeks taking up the SuperPro reigns left behind by Ron & Joe White.

Lewis, last year's SKUSA #4 plate holder in the FS1 class will campaign the Western ProMoto tour for Leading Edge in the SuperPro class while Weeks, also moving up from FS1, will campaign the full Eastern ProMoto races. Both young drivers will be piloting the familiar Leading Edge tweaked Trackmagic - Honda CR125 that have helped carry a Leading Edge driver to a top three in the ProMoto World Championship every year since it's inception, a feat that no other team has been able to accomplish.

"I am very comfortable with both Tyler and Courtney in their new roles on the team," said Bell. "They are both young and eager to run up front in their rookie year and I plan to help them attain that goal in any way I can."

Bell has taken the all or nothing approach in previous years of ProMoto competition and it has served the team well. With the expansion of Leading Edge Motorsports' business plans, 2002 will be a more budgeted program than in previous years as there are more series and races to contend. This tied with the departure of Bell's SuperPro contingent in 2001, Ron and Joe White, due to Ron having a possible chance to run formula cars in 2002, giving the Leading Edge Motorsports team a new focus with the two unproven SuperPro rookies of Lewis and Weeks at the helm.

"We want to thank Ron for all the hard work and great job last year," said Bell. "With Ron's plans to run formula cars and his interest in Russell and FF2000, we thought he was not going to have the ability to devote 100% to run the ProMoto tour. I thought it would be in our best interest to put those funds back into our growing business and when his program didn't materialize for 2002, there was not enough time to put a proper program together. We tried very hard to work the budget for 2002 to have Ron and Joe back with the team, but it just didn't look like it would work out properly and we already had a strong driver line-up in place."

In addition to their SuperPro drivers, Lewis and Weeks, Leading Edge Motorsports will also campaign Ron Joynt (FS1) in the East and Graham Rahal will be running a factory Leading Edge 80cc engine package on his ShiftKart/MooseSpeed Birel. In the West the team will have Gerald Crawford (K1), Chris Hinkle (80Jr.), R.J. McGahuey (80Jr.) and Derek Selman (80Jr.), while defending ShiftKart Challenge Champion, Marc Miller will join Leading Edge in June to defend his title in this year's J&M AutoBody ShiftKart Challenge at Portland International.
