SRFKC: Barrie Sunday race notes

Wickens, Carvalho, Cunningham and Di Meo take wins

BARRIE, ONTARIO The Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels has a new 'King of the Bay', and he is Cameron Motorsports' Robert Wickens who won the coveted crown presented to the winner of Sunday's Formula Senior race. Other winners on the day were Paul Carvalho in World Formula Senior, Devin Cunningham in Rotax Max Sr, and Michael Di Meo in Canada Junior Heavy. The biggest winner on the day was the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, which was the charity of choice for the 'media' race which pitted nine media members with nine karters that had raised funds to compete. Lloyd Shearer led all the bids with an impressive $2,200, and Sunoco matched the total raised by the karters. While the final number has not been tallied as yet, it is expected to reach the $18,000 mark. Holgate Motorsports Brad LeLiever and Fred Andrews from the New Chay/B10fm won the six lap race.

Formula Senior
Cameron Motorsports CRG driver Robert Wickens took the Pfaff Fast Qualifier Award for the headline class. Wickens took the lead from First Kart's Mike Roth and the two battled in the early portion of the race, until Wickens was able to get the lead and build a margin. He went on to win, with Roth second. Third went to points leader coming in, First Kart's Daniel Morad, who came from 10th on the grid.

World Formula Senior
CMP's Paul Carvalho took the Pfaff Fast Qualifier award, and went on to win by 4 seconds over fellow CMP driver Adriano Bilotta. CRG's Corey Usher was third.

RotaxMax Senior
SK Karting Tony Kart driver Devin Cunningham took his first Pfaff Fast Qualifier award for 2005. He went on to a flag-to-flag victory over Gold Kart's Kyle Herder on the track. Herder however ran afoul of the officials and was excluded from the results, which gave second place to First Kart's Eric Gerrits. Rounding out the podium was Hurricane's Jordan Lynch.

Canada Junior Heavy
Gold Kart's Gary Klutt took his first Pfaff Fast Qualifier award in the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship. Klutt diced it out the whole race with fellow Gold Kart driver, Michael Di Meo. Di Meo made a pass with two laps to go, and held on for the win. Klutt was second and First Kart's Kevin Monteith was third.

The GM Racing award for Sunday went to Robert Wickens, and the Pratt&Miller Team Spirit award went to Paul Schultze and his Green Shirt Team for keeping the hay bales outlining the track, rather than covering it.

The objective of the SRFKC is to help foster a professional environment for kart drivers; help create a positive attitude towards appearance, conduct and discipline; help foster the employment of the best practices for the safe and fair running of competitions; and help kart drivers to move up the racing ladder to automobile racing.
