Close action highlights first day of action at Mosport

MOSPORT, ONTARIO With the Saturday races at Mosport being the first races of the second half of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels season, you would have expected drivers that were looking for a championship in 2007 to bring their 'A' game. That is what everyone did, and the result was some of the best racing of the year. Mike Vincec took the win in Rotax DD2 Shifter, Gary Klutt used a last corner pass to win Canada Junior Heavy. Garret Grist left no doubt as to who was the one to beat in F1K Cadet as he went flag to flag for the victory.

Aaron de Heus drove a fantastic race to win Canada Senior, while Vincent Rago won a hard fought F1K Junior finale.

Tomorrow's action should be just as intense. Qualifying starts at 10:30 am, and the finals go at 1:30pm.

Rotax Max DD2 Shifter
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Mike Vincec

In the DD2 pre final, Pfaff Fast Qualifier Mike Vincec got moved back to third, but then he made his way back to the lead and to win by just over 2.6 seconds. Micheal Di Meo, who led the early laps was second, and Jason France was third. In the DD2 final, the top three stayed pretty much in order, with Vincec taking lead, followed by Di Meo and Herder, who had moved up from fourth. Herder has made his way past Di Meo for second, and that was the way it ended with Vincec winning, Herder second, and Di Meo third.

Canada Junior Heavy
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Reid Arnold

In Canada Junior Heavy, Kevin Monteith took the lead early, then it was Gary Klutt's turn to lead on lap 4. Klutt withstood the last turn attack from Kylan Van Teinen and Kevin Monteith, which let Reid Arnold move up to third, demoting Monteith to fourth. In the final, Gary Klutt led the first half of the race, then the race to the line coming out of the last corner. Klutt was shuffled out of the lead in the second half of the race by Kevin Monteith and Jonathon Treadwell. Klutt got by Treadwell with one to go, then got by Monteith in the final corner.

F1-K 60cc Cadet
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Garett Grist

In F1K Cadet, Grist led from start to finish ahead of Byrson Schutte and Kenneth O'Keefe. In the final, Garret Grist checked out to a 8 second lead by the halfway point. Harrison White was second and Artem Korolev third.

Canada Senior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Greg Rempel

In Canada Senior, Greg Rempel hung on to win a close fought battle in the prefinal. Mark Stehle was second and Derek Michaud third. In the final, poleman Greg Rempel was hung out on the first turn and fell back. Rempel climbed back up to fourth behind Marc Stehle and Aaron de Heus. Third was Chris Holman in the early going, with Marco Di Leo stalking them in fifth.

De Heus took the lead on lap 10, bringing Holman with him. Stehle was dropped to third, then Rempel and Di Leo. De Heus managed to hold on for the win after a hectic last few laps. Di Leo was second and Marc Stehle was third.

F1-K Junior
Pfaff Fast Qualifier Addison Rayner

In F1K Junior, David Ostella took the win over Vincent Rago and Brendan Wales. Polesitter Addison Rayner was 'bumped off' on the first lap and had to start the final from the back. In the final, it was a short day for David Ostella, who led early on then retired after contact. That gave the lead to Brendan Wales, who was passed at the midway point by Vincent Rago and Zac Mahoney. Rayner came all the way from the back to third in the late going. They crossed the line with Rago winning, Mahoney right behind him in second then Rayner in third.

GM RACING AWARD Aaron de Heus from his drive from the back of the field in the prefinal to start fourth in the final. De Heus went on to win the final in Canada Senior.
