MSA congratulates Jake Dennis on CIK-FIA U18 World Karting Championship victory
British karter Jake Dennis sent a clear message to his rivals by claiming victory in the first round of the new CIK-FIA U18 World Karting Championship at Wackersdorf, Germany this weekend.
Racing Steps Foundation-backed Dennis - who is currently leading the MSA British Junior Kart Championship - beat a talented field of more than 60 international competitors to secure maximum points on the first event of the three-round championship.
Dennis, 15 from Leicestershire, said: "The race at Wackersdorf was one of the biggest of the year, so it felt incredible to win and is definitely one of my greatest achievements in karting so far. I was confident heading into the race because I knew I would be quick and I had plenty of experience from the MSA British Junior Kart Championship to rely on."
Also in action at Wackersdorf was Roy Johnson, who has been nominated by the MSA to represent the UK in the new CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy. Johnson, the 2008 MSA British Cadet Kart Champion, secured a pair of fourth place finishes at this first meeting and heads to the next round in a promising fourth place overall.
MSA Chief Executive Colin Hilton said: "Both Jake and Roy have made impressive starts to these new championships and we wish them, and the other British drivers taking part, every success in the remaining rounds."
Both the U18 World Karting Championship and the Karting Academy Trophy continue at Alcaniz, Spain on August 27-29 before concluding at Val d'Argenton, France on October 1-3.
