HARVEY ON A HIGH AS NEW SEASON BEGINS

Bassingham Kart racer Jack Harvey heads into the 2005 season next weekend with a string off top results under his belt before his twin charge on the Super One and Stars of Tomorrow Championships gets underway.

The Lincoln Minster School pupil will head to the Clay Pigeon circuit in Dorset next weekend (March 19/20) for the opening round of the Super One Rotax Mini-Max series. Victory at the circuit two weeks ago in the Rotax Shakedown meeting, against his 2005 rivals puts him as one of the favourites for glory.

The 11-year-old followed up that result with pole position and second place last weekend and is full of confidence for the task ahead. The Strawberry Racing driver has been working hard with the team to get up to speed for an all out attack on the two main championships in the UK.

"I'm feeling good about the start of the season," said Jack. "We've done an awful lot of hard work to make sure we are as prepared as we can be. I will certainly be going out for victory next weekend and we will see what happens," he added.

A consistent performance over the weekend meant that he started from pole for the final on Sunday. However, an engine problem robbed him of vital low end power mid-way through the race. Some superb defensive driving allowed Jack to hold onto the lead for a handful of laps, before having to concede the race victory and settle for another solid podium position.

"I struggled a little in the heats with a mixture of my driving and the kart. But everything came together in the final and we had a good set-up, it was just frustrating to lose the power when we did and the lead of the race," said Jack.

"The whole package is coming together for us now. The team has been superb this weekend. We know what the pace at the front is now and we know that we can both run and set that pace, it is the best possible position to be in for the start of the season," he added.
