Eliott Bachelart wins National WKA race at Lowes
(Indianapolis, IN) 14 March 2006--14-year old Eliott Bachelart of
Indianapolis had a break-out weekend at Lowes Motor Speedway in
Charlotte this weekend, taking the first National World Karting
Association race win of his young career in dramatic fashion on Saturday
and backing that up with another run to the podium on Sunday.
Running in the Yamaha Junior Super Can Lite Series, Bachelart qualified on the pole, won the heat race and then carded the fastest lap of the race on his way to the top step on the victory podium in the final. The Lowes race weekend was just the second National event for Eliott, and the results were very encouraging for the eighth-grader.
"I'm really happy about the weekend because there were almost 50 karters in the class, so to do so well against such a big field is a big boost to my confidence for the rest of the season," said Bachelart.
On Sunday, Bachelart kept up his pace in the Yamaha Junior Super Can
Heavy Series, again winning the pole in the heat race and running strong
in the final, only to be knocked off-track by a competitor late in the
race. Undaunted, Bachelart returned to the track in fifth place and
passed his way back into third by the checkered flag, only missing out
on a second win by eight-tenths of a second.
"That was disappointing to be knocked off the track, but I knew I was fast so I was happy I could get back into the race and be so close to another win," said Bachelart. "My coach AJ Codalata did a great job this weekend and I learned some things that are going to help me keep getting faster as the season goes on."
Bachelart has since returned to Indianapolis, resuming his duties behind
the desk in class as the young eighth-grader eagerly anticipates his
next run in the Yamaha Super Can Lite and Heavy classes on the weekend
of June 3rd and 4th, at Springfield IL.
