GERRITS SCORES VICTORY AT STARS OF KARTING EVENT
"Defending Canadian National Champion garners two podiums"
Sharon, Ontario -- June 7, 2006 -- After a very successful start to the '06 racing season, FirstKart.com's Eric Gerrits scores his first career Stars of Karting victory this past weekend in Primm, NV. The Canadian pilot made the cross country trek and managed to garner two podium results in his hunt for the overall national championship.
Looking to improve his position in the overall point standings, Gerrits was gunning for the victory and was fast right out of the box. Qualifying inside the top ten, Gerrits progressively moved forward throughout the pre-finals to ensure a good starting position for the main event.
Looking to open a gap early, Gerrits and fellow First Kart teammate Devon Sandeen hooked up and began to work together and pull away from the field. The duo swapped the point on several occasions before Gerrits took the lead for good with four laps remaining.
"Coming off the last corner and seeing the checkered flag in the starter's hand was a great feeling," explained Gerrits from the paddock. "We have had some tough luck in some of the bigger events this year but we kept working and were able to pull through."
Sunday provided more action for Gerrits as he claimed the second step on the podium and a one-two finish for the First Kart Fellner Power drivers.
Eric Gerrits and Eric Gerrits Racing will enjoy a few weekends off before the Barrie Grand Prix Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship event in Barrie, Ontario.
