G-Phactory grabs two podium spots in final Western Division championship

August 27, 2008 (Huntington Beach, Calif.) -- The G-Phactory team trekked north from Surf City to Seattle for the Snap-On Stars of Karting presented by the Indy Racing League's Western Division Finale with two drivers in contention for a championship: Michael Self and Pat Iannucci, both in Stars TaG -- far and away the most competitive class in Stars of Karting this season.

Self -- with a DLD Leopard aboard his Sodi Kart for power -- initially struggled after contact in the event's second heat race knocked him down the field, but put himself in position to win the Western Division championship with a strong fifth in the third heat. Fourth place in the first main, with Iannucci right behind for support, meant the Western Division championship was in sight for Self.

However, it was not to be as Self and another kart made contact on the last lap of the second final, allowing eventual championship winner Chris Scribner to pass Self and snatch the title away, with Iannucci finishing in fourth while Self crossed the line in fifth. In the final Western Division Stars TaG championship results, Self would end up second with Iannucci in third.

Andrick Zeen showed major speed in his kart, qualifying seventh before contact in the close quarters of the temporary Seattle track dropped him further down the order.

In ICC, Ryan Yop put in a strong performance -- especially in the rain that fell during the second final -- to record two top-10 finishes.

"Michael has driven exceptionally well in his first season for us," said team principal Phil Giebler. "We were within a few corners of grabbing a championship this season, but we can't be disappointed with Michael's job behind the wheel and the crew's job at preparing the karts. It was a stellar effort and gives us a lot of momentum as we head to the Season Finals at Las Vegas."

The final Stars of Karting event of the season is scheduled for October 10-12 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
