Strong showing for G-Phactory in a tough TaG field in Shawano
July 17, 2008 (Huntington Beach, Calif.) -- The newest chassis delivered to Orange County, California-based G-Phactory from Sodi Kart in France have proven to be fast and competitive in Stars of Karting competition all season. In what is the largest and tightest class in Stars of Karting - Stars TaG -- G-Phactory has consistently put their silver Sodi Karts at the front end of the field all season.
In the middle of another stacked Stars TaG field at the USA International Raceway track in Shawano, Wisconsin, for the Eastern Division finale, it would be more of the same for drivers Michael Self, Pat Iannucci, Adam Zeen and Andrick Zeen.
Self got things started by putting his Sodi Kart third in qualifying, and backed it up with a third in the first heat race. The heat races were hard fought affairs for the Sodi Karts, but all four drivers constantly put the silver karts in the top ten in each.
It would end up that two of G-Phactory's drivers were in the top ten in the first heat race, with Self finishing in eighth and Ianucci reversing his bad luck on the weekend to drive through the field and finish tenth. Unfortunately, contact removed Iannucci from the second final. Self improved on his first final by one spot to finish the second final in seventh, with Andrick Zeen in ninth. But the big mover for the team was Adam Zeen, who passed eleven cars to finish eleventh after starting 22nd.
ICC driver Ryan Yop showed up at the track a bit under the weather but not lacking any of his natural competitiveness. Fast in practice, Yop put his Sodi Kart 12th in a very competitive ICC field. After flirting with the top-10 throughout the heat races, Yop brought the Sodi home in ninth in the first final race. He was unable to improve on that run in the second final, when he struck the sideways kart of Fritz Leesemann after Leesemann was turned sideways at the start.
"It was a very solid weekend for us in Shawano," said team principal Phil Giebler. "I'm very happy that we are able to consistently get the boys to the front of the field in that very competitive TaG field. Ryan put in another strong run for us in ICC, but luck just wasn't on our side in that second final. He was sick all weekend but you wouldn't know by the way he was driving.J "It was also the most solid weekend we've seen from Andrick Zeen. He was in the top-10 all weekend, with the only exception being the first final where he ran into trouble on the first lap and had to climb back to twelfth. The youngster (Andrick is fifteen years-old) showed lots of maturity."
Next up for the G-Phactory team will be the Western Division finale at the Pacific Grand Prix, August 22-24.
