G-Phactory bags three podiums in Utah

April 30, 2008 (Huntington Beach, Calif.) -- The busy staff at G-Phactory / Sodi Racing USA were well rewarded for a very busy month of April as they left Miller Motorsports Park with no less than five trophies to display in the glass cases of their southern California shop.

Kicking off the podium celebrations was ICC driver Ryan Yop, who grabbed his first podium for the team, as well as his first podium in Stars of Karting competition, in the weekend's second final. From his seventh-place starting position, Yop drove through a turn one pileup to third and held station for the duration of the race. Despite heavy pressure from two drivers behind, Yop brought his Sodi Kart/ DDR TM home on the podium.

Teammate Halen finished the second final in ninth. It was a good rebound after the first final, when neither Yop nor Halen finished the race after accidents on lap one caused both to retire.

In the war that is TaG, G-Phactory populated the front of the field by putting all four of its drivers -- Pat Iannucci, Michael Self, and Adam and Andrick Zeen -- inside the top ten on points after Saturday's heat races. Come Sunday's finals, it would be Self and Iannucci that would be the team's major factors at the front of the TaG finals. Ianucci started the finals in second, while Self -- on his home track -- lined up third. The hard-fought races saw Self finish second each time -- his best finish in Stars of Karting competition. Iannucci made life exciting by dropping backwards at the start of both finals, before racing through the field to finish third in each. Along the way, he grabbed the race's fastest lap in the first.

Not far behind, Andrick wound up sixth in the first final while brother Adam was sixteenth. In the second, it was Adam leading Andrick home in thirteenth and fourteenth. Andrick did, however, grab the race's fastest lap in the second main -- as well as the TaG track record.

Running as the sole G-Phactory / Sodi Racing USA representative in JICA, Thomas Micich took home a 23rd and 20th in the two finals after tough luck in both races.

"This was a really great weekend for our entire team," said team co-manager Phil Giebler. "With two races this month, plus the trip to France, everyone on the team has been putting in a ton of work and not sleeping very much. The guys drove great and this is definitely a nice reward for our very busy month."

And while most of the G-Phactory team was in Utah, a few of them were in central California to compete in the second ProKart Challenge event of the year.

Shawn Cricca scored the squad's best result of the day, scoring a third in TaG Senior. Bryce Miller and Craig Cutler battled all day in S4, with Cutler, in fifth, edging Miller in the day's main event. J The Stars of Karting team is back in action at the Eastern and Western Divisional event at New Castle Motorsports Park in four weeks, while the ProKart contingent competes that same weekend at the Willow Springs Kart Track.
