SNAP-ON STARS OF KARTING SERIES DRIVERS PARTICIPATE IN FORD FOCUS
Seattle, Washington -- October 4, 2008 -- Three former Snap-on Stars of Karting Series race winners completed a Ford Focus Midget test this past weekend at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. Joining forces with Wally Pankratz Racing and Maier Racing, Gary Carlton, Joel Miller and James Kennedy all got behind the wheel of a Ford Focus race car for a day full of experiences.
From winning in the Intercontinental C (ICC), Stars Tag and/or formerly Intercontinental A (ICA) divisions and with the support from the United States Auto Cub (USAC) Ford Focus Series and K & N Filter, all three drivers were awarded the opportunity to drive the powerful machines.
"The experience was great," explained two time defending ICC National Champion Gary Carlton. "I would like to thank Charlie Maier and Maier Racing for the opportunity."
"It was good being able to get back in the Focus Midget; it was enjoyable," stated current Star Mazda front runner and former ICA champion Joel Miller. "With K&N Air Filters being a supporter of mine in Star Mazda, it was a good opportunity for me to drive their Focus Midget car. I have to thank Stars of Karting and Maier Racing for making this event happen."
"The Snap-on Stars of Karting series is full of young, talented drivers eager to make a step to the next level of racing," explained Charles Maier of Maier Racing. "All of us at K & N Filters, Maier Racing, Wally Pankratz Racing and the Ford Focus Midget Series are very happy to be able to showcase these cars as an option to drivers like James, Joel, and Gary. All three of them performed exceptionally well today."
Also competing in the test was former SodiKart pilot and ICA front runner James Kennedy. After advancing through the karting ranks, Kennedy has pursued a career in oval racing and now competes in Legend Car action.
Though many karters are looking to make it to the world of professional open wheel racing, several former Stars of Karting competitors are going the route of oval racing. Screaming Talent's Jay Howard and G-Phactory's Phil Giebler have both seen action in the IndyCar Series while former champion Cole Whitt is making a name for himself in the world of Sprint Cars and Canadian Brendan Langlois is a front runner in the Ford Focus Midget Series with Ron Sutton's Winner's Circle.
The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will continue with its schedule with the National Finals taking place October 10 -- 12, 2008 on a temporary circuit inside the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After crowning National Champions in all five classes, Stars of Karting will then shift the focus to the PRI All-Stars Karting Classic taking place December 11.
