Former WKA Competitor Injured In Sprint Car Race

09.09.2008 -- Everyone at WKA wishes former member, John Westbrook, a speedy recovery as he was critically injured Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA.

His Sprint car flipped and was launched over the first and second turn, landing on the access road. He had been knocked unconscious and was transported to Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Westbrook used to compete in the Champ Division in the World Karting Association.

Westbrook underwent 12 hours of surgery on Saturday and it is reported that he has a broken back and neck. John has regained consciousness, has limited upper body movement and no feeling from the waist down. Everyone remains optimistic at this time. If you wish to send cards or well wishes, please send them to his home, as he remains in intensive care at this time. His address is: 15 W. Greenhouse Road, Dillsburg, PA 17019. Westbrook is in everyone's thoughts and prayers and we all wish him well.

Road Racers Roundup

09.09.2008 - With Championships on the line, the Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series driven by Mazda racing season is approaching the home stretch with the last two events culminating in the state of Georgia in October. While the road racers are enjoying a brief reprieve from the national traveling schedule most are taking advantage of the down time at home, getting their karts ready for a double-header to finish the season.

The Southern Kart Club will host stop #7 of the 8-race season in the Savannah low country at the Roebling Road Raceway the weekend of October 3-5 and Braselton GA's Road Atlanta under the direction of the Big South Series will host the season finale the weekend of October 31 - November 2.

According to SKC officials, pre-entries for the Roebling event have been steady since its opening day of August 27th. Deadline to pre-register for the event is September 25th. Click here for detailed event information and schedules. The Road Atlanta event schedule is now available for download and event pre-registration begins Wednesday, September 24th.

We look forward to seeing you at the races.
