WKA Announces Change in Spec Tire Program for the Manufacturer's Cup Junior Sportsman Classes

02.01.2008 - In response to the wishes of the WKA members, the Board of Trustees has approved the use of MG tires in the Cadet Junior Sportsman, Yamaha Junior Sportsman and HPV Junior Sportsman classes.

For the 2008 competition year, the MG SLE Blue tire and the MG HZ Red tire are approved. According to an MG spokesman, the tire construction and rubber compound in the HZ Red and SLE Blue are identical. The change in designation is in compliance with the CIK homologation procedure. In the 2009 and 2010 competition years the MG HZ Red will be the tire approved for use in these classes. Bridgestone will continue to supply tires in all other Manufacturer's Cup classes.

A key feature of the new Spec Tire Program in the Manufacturer's Cup Series is a three year contract. This means that the spec tires will remain the same for the 2008, 2009, and 2010 competition years. This will allow our competitors as well as Bridgestone and MG to better plan for the future. The WKA Board of Trustees expressed its appreciation to the competitors for letting their wishes be known and to Bridgestone and MG management for their support in making this change to the spec tire program.
