Brundle ready for Le Mans return after “perfect” test day

The ex-F1 star-turned-TV commentator completed over 90 laps of the UK circuit in the MMCG/Richard Mille-backed Ligier JS P3 car ahead of the Road to Le Mans event, which will act as a curtain-raiser to the 24-Hour race.

A total of 39 cars have been entered for the event, which will take place on the Saturday morning on June 18, and will mark Brundle's return to the Circuit de la Sarthe for the first time since his last 24 Hours attempt in 2012.

“We've had the perfect day,” said Brundle. “It was dry and we managed to get 92 laps in round Snetterton, which is just what I needed.

“I'm feeling in really good condition too. The car was a brand new one, so this was meant to be a shakedown for it, but we covered a fair few miles and it ran absolutely faultlessly.

“[Son] Alex had told me lots about how the car works, its various characteristics – its good points and areas to work around – he's obviously had a lot of seat time in it now, but it was good to feel it for myself and understand exactly what he was talking about.

“We've had a great day. I wasn't expecting to cover as many miles as I did but it's been perfect, we really couldn't have done any more.”

Among Brundle’s opposition with be Jan Lammers, winner of the 1988 Le Mans 24 Hours for Jaguar with Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace, who will race a Racing Team Holland Ligier.

Brundle’s own Le Mans win with Jaguar came two years later, with John Nielsen and Price Cobb – when Lammers finished second in the sister car.

Brundle will share his car with Christian England, as Alex – who races full-time in the ELMS for the team – is ineligible to race due to his gold rating.
