Ford v. Ferrari movie debuts first trailer

The 20th Century Fox film studio has debuted a first trailer for the upcoming Ford v. Ferrari movie, which will portray the rivalry between the two marques at the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours race.

Watch: Ford v. Ferrari - International Trailer (2019)

The film, set in 1966, stars Academy Award winners Christian Bale and Matt Damon, and is directed by James Mangold.

Mangold's previous work includes the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line and, most recently, the acclaimed superhero action movie Logan.

The first look at the new movie clocks in at just over two minutes and shows Damon in the role of famed car designer Carroll Shelby, with Bale, who previously worked with Mangold on the remake of 3:10 to Yuma, playing British sportscar ace Ken Miles.

It also features Jon Bernthal, best known for his roles in TV shows The Walking Dead and Marvel's The Punisher, as Ford exec Lee Iacocca, as well as acclaimed theatre actor Tracy Letts as Henry Ford II.

The trailer, which is soundtracked by the Rolling Stones song “Gimme Shelter” and offers a glimpse of the racing action in the film, was first unveiled to the public during Sunday's NBA finals game between the Toronto Raptors and the Golden State Warriors.

Bale and Damon served as the honorary starters for last month's marquee Indy 500 race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The movie has a release date of November 15 in the UK and the USA, but is slated to be in cinemas a day earlier in a number of other countries.

Former successful sportscar racer Alex Gurney has revealed that he plays his father, the legendary Dan Gurney, in the movie.
