6 Hours of Imola
7th overall / 3rd « gasoline», but Pescarolo Team Autovision is still leading the LMS Championship
The heat was on at Imola for LMS 3rd round. Literally. Mercury rose to 35°C while the tarmac went up to 48°C. Back in 2009, Michelin’s softest tires couldn’t last more than two relays in these conditions. So we chose to run on medium compound for the week-end. What we didn’t take into account was Michelin’s huge technical progress while we were away from the racing tracks and the softest compound available at Imola showed an incredible wear resistance… on the Lola-Rebellion-Toyota!
Right from the start, we realized that the Pescarolo # 16 was a few tenth too slow to keep up with our competitors. For a while, we thought that the Oak-Pescarolo driven by Guillaume Moreau would help us in our fight with the Rebellion. Unfortunately, mechanical problems delayed the “other” Pescarolo in the pits.
Christophe Tinseau, Julien Jousse and Emmanuel Collard pushed hard to kept our Pescarolo-Judd in the same lap as the two Rebellion. We even thought finishing 6th overall when Nicolas Prost had to stop to clean his windscreen. But shortly after, we had to make a short pit stop ourselves in order to clean one of the brake airducts intakes, clogged with rubber balls, causing overheating problems.
We have been dominating the LMP1 “gasoline” category since the beginning of the year and we hoped to do the same at Imola. We are still leading the LMS Championship, despite being tied-up with Rebellion, and Emmanuel Collard, Christophe Tinseau and Julien Jousse are dominating the driver’s championship. As for the Michelin Green X Challenge, the Pescarolo Team still has a comfortable lead over our main competitors.
Next rendez-vous is now Silverstone, on September 11th.
