Peugeot fastest in warm-up

The #8 Team Peugeot Total 908 of Stephane Sarrazin, Pedro Lamy and Sebastien Bourdais was fastest in the morning warm-up session for this afternoon's Le Mans 24 Hours. The session was officially wet after rainfall during the night and just before the start.

The #8 Peugeot completed nine flying laps in the forty-five minute session and was quicker than the second-placed #2 Audi Sport North America R10 TDI of Rinaldo Capello, Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen by two and a half seconds.

The sister #7 Peugeot of Nicolas Minassian, Marc Gene and Jacques Villeneuve was down in ninth position after concentrating on trying different types of wet-weather tyres during the session in preparation for similar conditions during the race.

Teams concentrated on giving each of their drivers a chance to experience the damp track on race day as well as shaking down freshly changed engines, trying out different tyre combinations and doing last-minute driver change practices.

Team Barazi Competition continued their domination of the LMP2 category with the #32 Epsilon Zytek 07S/2 of Juan Barazi, Michael Vergers and Karim Ojjeh going fastest, four seconds ahead of the #25 Team RML Ray Mallock Lola-AER B05-40.

Corvette headed an incredibly tight LMGT1 class with the #64 C6-R of Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta and Max Papis fractionally ahead of the #007 Team Aston Martin Racing DBR9 of Johnny Herbert, Tomas Enge and Peter Kox.

The LMGT2 class was headed by the #76 Imsa Performancec Matmut Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Raymond Narac, Richard Lietz and Patrick Long.

The only entry not to run in the session was the #19 Team Chamberlain - Synergy Lola-AER B0610 of Bob Berridge, Gareth Evans and Peter Owen which chose not to particpate in order to preserve the car for the race later today.

The 75th Le Mans 24 Hours starts this afternoon at 3pm local time (1pm GMT).
