RML celebrates 30 years of success

Wellingborough (UK): RML today celebrates and reflects on 30 Years of Success having been founded by Ray Mallock on this day (2 July) in 1984.
 
Synonymous with motorsport, the Mallock name first entered the motorsport headlines as Major Arthur Mallock designed, built and successfully raced his own lightweight sports cars.  Widely regarded as one of the great pioneers of post-war motor racing in Britain, the original concept of the U2 chassis is still in production today and continues to compete across the globe – thus making Mallock the longest surviving family-owned race car manufacturer in continuous production in the UK.
 
RML Chief Executive, Ray Mallock, started his motorsport career alongside his brother, Richard – the pair assisting their father in the build of these cars – before carving out his own successful racing career in Single Seaters and Sports Cars.
 
By 1979 Ray had developed his own race team, known as Ray Mallock Atlantic Racing.  The world of Prototype Sportscar racing would soon come looking for a new recruit and, in 1982, Ray was competing in the all-new Aston Martin Nimrod for Lord Downe’s privateer team in the World Sports Car Championship (WSCC) and Le Mans.
 
With Ray applying his skills both behind the wheel and in development engineering, the privateer group achieved a staggering points haul in the championship – placing higher than the works team by season end.
 
1980 was instrumental in the development of RML as Ray would go on to set even better records in the second year with the Nimrod and RS Williams.  With extra budget came a complete wind tunnel development programme,  during which time Ray headed a total bodywork redesign.  By Le Mans the car went a full eleven seconds faster than the year before and the team secured third place in the championship, and with it some considerable recognition.
 
Fast forward to 1984, the year in which Ray Mallock Atlantic Racing was renamed RML (Ray Mallock Ltd). Following the on track success of previous years, the high performance engineering business was on the rise with new contracts coming in, most notably within the ultra-competitive and ever expanding WSCC.
 
Since its inception, the Wellingborough-based group has continued to deliver a wealth of on-track and on-road objectives, both sealing contracts with and representing an abundance of highly regarded OEMs.
 
The RML of today is a world-leading high performance automotive engineering company.  Over the past thirty years RML can boast championship success in every arena in which it has ever competed, including Touring Cars, GT, Sports Prototype and Rallying:
