The REBELLION R-One claims an amazing fourth place overall !

With the brand new REBELLION R-One, designed and built by ORECA Technology for REBELLION Racing, the Swiss team equalled its best result at the 24 Hours of Le Mans ! Although the No. 13 driven by Andrea Belicchi, Dominik Kraihamer and Fabio Leimer was forced to retire, the No. 12 of Nicolas Prost, Nick Heidfeld and Mathias Beche took an impressive fourth place overall, behind two factory Audis and one official Toyota. A true feat for a car that took to the track only two months ago !

European Le Mans Series champions, two-time Petit Le Mans winners and two-time LM P1 Teams FIA Endurance Trophy winners, REBLLION Racing is an ambitious team. And it’s that ambition that pushed the Swiss squad to enter an all-new car in 2014, the first LM P1-L to make its competition debut : the REBELLION R-One. Following its first roll-out on April 16, 363 days after the design of the first part, a frist race at Spa and three days of testing, the R-One and REBELLION Racing were looking at these 24 Hours of Le Mans with one objective : top six. Mission more than accomplished !

At the end of a race marked by numerous incidents and mechanical woes, many competitors fell by the wayside, including the factory manufacturers. One of the two R-Ones completed the twice around the clock classic race, completing no fewer than 360 laps, or 4,900 kilometers, leading to a fourth place finish ahead of the sole remaining Porsche 919 hybrid.

" What can I say after such a result? " admits Bart Hayden, Team Manager. " I think we are all a little surprised. It’s truly an exceptional result for everyone who has worked on this project, the REBELLION mechanics that have built the cars, the whole team present here, and the members of ORECA who have supported us. We couldn’t dream of such a performance, but we did it. Our fastest lap was 3 :28.466, not so far from the factory cars, and we were the fastest on track during a time. That shows the potential of the car and to what point we could be successful. That was the case today, and it’s important for us all because it’s the biggest race of the year. "

" We started this challenge together a little over 14 months ago, and to see the R-One finish Le Mans in fourth place after such a short time is a real satisfaction. The car has progressed since its first laps, and all during the week, showing interesting potential for the race. And to see the car arrive at the finish without having any issues at such a difficult race is really a positive thing. As good a result as it is, this is a step that places everyone in the right direction. We – REBELLION Racing and ORECA Technology – must capitalise on this performance.
