LMS Champions to Race for Le Mans Honours
Zytek Motorsport provides support for four teams at French classic
Zytek Motorsport is supporting four teams at this weekend's Le Mans 24-hours with line-ups that include the reigning Le Mans Series LMP2 champions and the 1992 Formula One World Champion.
The title holders, Olivier Pla and Miguel Amaral and the Quifel-ASM team were victorious in the most recent LMS round, which took place at Spa-Francorchamps and are amongst the favourites for LMP2 class honours at Le Mans. Following the Spa victory, further testing at Motorland, Aragon has indicated that their Ginetta-Zytek 09SB's new, low down force body kit is well suited to the 13.629km Le Mans circuit.
The Quifel-ASM Ginetta-Zytek (09S-05) uses a 3.4-litre Zytek ZG348 engine, a development of that which won the LMP2 category at Le Mans in 2007. The third member of the team for Le Mans will be the experienced Warren Hughes who has also competed here with Zytek power when a member of the Embassy team
Two other Ginetta-Zyteks will benefit from the new body kit. In the LMP1 class, the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team makes its Le Mans debut with the car (09S-04) that sat on the pole at Barcelona last year. This is sure to attract much attention for former Formula One icon, Nigel Mansell will use it to make his Le Mans debut, partnered by his sons Greg and Leo. This will be the first time a father and two sons will have raced in the same car at Le Mans. Their 09SB will be powered by an example of the Zytek 4.5-litre ZJ458 engine that made its Le Mans debut last year, finishing the grueling 24-hour race first time out.
A second LMP2 Ginetta-Zytek is the car (07S-03) that qualified on pole and came second in class at Le Mans in 2007. Now run by Team Bruichladdich, this will be driven by two of its regular 2010 pilots, Karim Ojjeh and Tim Greaves. They will be joined at Le Mans by Gary Chalandon who, last year, competed in the supporting Formula Le Mans race. The promising Chalandon replaces the injured Thor-Christian Ebbesvik.
The fourth car to receive Zytek support will be the WR LMP2008, a welcome return to La Sarthe for the French team. Like the LMP2 Ginetta-Zyteks, it too will be powered by a Zytek ZG348 engine. The driving trio will be the usual LMS line-up of Tristan Gommendy and the Salini brothers, Philippe and Stephane.
