Ed Stimely, Jr. Leads ARDC CARQUEST Midgets Back To North Carolina

Easton, Pa. July 11 - Defending American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) CARQUEST Midget Series Champion, Ed Stimely, Jr., of McVeytown, Pa., is the current points leader in the Midget series. Stimely will attempt to control that point lead when the ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series heads back down South to the dirt track, Dixieland Speedway, in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on Friday, July 17.

Bryan Kobylarz, of Birdsboro, Pa., is in second place in the point standings. Kobylarz has been running the entire dirt and asphalt races on the ARDC schedule in an attempt to dethrone Stimely from the ARDC Championship.

On July 4th, Stimely and Kobylarz were among the many ARDC competitors who traveled to Oswego Speedway in Oswego, New York to support the NorthEastern Midget Association (NEMA) race. Stimely finished fifth and Kobylarz finished twenty-third in this race that was won by NEMA regular, Drew Fornoro. The win was a historic performance for Fornoro, who claimed his seventy-third NEMA feature, breaking a record owned by Dave Humphrey. ARDC driver, Phil DiMario, was clearly the fastest car after he took the lead from fellow ARDC racer, Gary Mondschein. But, on lap 23 of the 25-lap race, DiMario's Ray McCabe owned No.23 broke a rocker arm and was sidelined, with only two laps to go. DiMario was credited with a 20th place finish. Other ARDC drivers who supported this NEMA race were, Bob Botticher (3rd), Gary Mondschein (4th), Stimely (5th), Mark Freeland (6th), Fred Schell (9th), Mark Wakefoose (10th), Bill Courtwright (12th), Mike Lapp (15th), Dan Shelbo (19th), DiMario (20th), Brian Suchy (22nd), Kobylarz (23rd) and Monnie Wonder III (24th). Doug Borger and Walt Stearly did not start the feature.

When ARDC returns to Dixieland Speedway on July 17, Doug Borger of Kunkltown, Pa. will try to return to the winner's circle. Borger was the feature winner at the North Carolina track in the 1997 ARDC race. Then ARDC puts the pavement tires back on their cars again on Saturday, July 25th, for a return to Flemington Speedway in Flemington, New Jersey. In August, the June race that was rained out at Evergreen Raceway in St. John's, Pa. has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 1.
