ARDC CARQUEST Midgets Return to Grandview
BECHTELSVILLE, Pa., Jan. 21 - The American Racing Drivers Club (ARDC) CARQUEST Midget Series will make its first appearance at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pa., in five years as part of the 10th annual "Thunder on the Hill" series on Tuesday night, July 20.
The announcement was made jointly by race promoter Bob Miller and Mike Roselli, ARDC's booking agent.
The program is being called "Grandview Thunder 4-25" because it will feature four 25-lap features for 410 sprints, KARS wingless sprints, ARDC CARQUEST Midgets and NASCAR modifieds.
No heats will be run; in ARDC's case, the 24-car starting lineup will be determined by points and the usual ARDC handicapping system. The ARDC CARQUEST feature winner will take home $850, and there is a minimum of $100 tow money for the midgets. The program will also pay 50 points to the ARDC CARQUEST midgets on hand.
The front gate is slated to open at 5 p.m. and the races are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The rain date is Wednesday night, July 21.
The last two ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series races at Grandview were both won by Lou Cicconi Jr. of Aston, Pa., on Sept. 4, 1994 and Sept. 5, 1993.
At a third of a mile, the clay track is perfect for midgets. The late Ed Darrell, a lifetime member of ARDC, promoted many midget events there from 1974 until his retirement in 1991.
Grandview is located 3.5 miles north of State Route 73 on State Route 100, and then a half-mile east on Passmore Road.
"Thunder on the Hill" is a Bruce Rogers/Bob Miller promotion. For more information, call (610) 754-7688.
