National Midget Auto Racing Museum & High Banks Hall Of Fame Ground-Breaking July 5 In Belleville
BELLEVILLE, Kan. (June 22, 2001) - After four years of pursuing this historical project, the National Midget Auto Racing Museum & High Banks Hall of Fame will break ground on Thursday, July 5, for new construction.
A recent grant from the State of Kansas in the amount of $50,000 was awarded to the High Banks Hall of Fame, Inc., to assist in construction for Phase 1 of the three-phase structure.
Over the past few years, projects and donations have been sought and accumulated for the new Museum to be located on Highway 81 which passes through Belleville. Raymond Splichal of the High Banks Museum Finance Team announced that an additional sum of $100,000 will still need to be raised to furnish and complete the interior of the project.
The ground-breaking ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 5, just South of the Kansas Travel Information Center, which has 30,000 visitors per year.
The public is invited to take part in the ceremony and the turning of soil.
On hand to participate in this function will be Kansas State Senator Janis Lee of Kensington and 1999 Belleville Midget Nationals Champion Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind.
Also scheduled to participate are dirt Late Model veteran Joe Kosiski of Omaha, Neb.; four-time I.M.C.A. Modified National Champion Johnny Saathoff of Beatrice, Neb.; and retired open wheel superstar Jay Woodside of Wichita -- a recent inductee into the High Banks Hall of Fame.
Numerous other drivers have been contacted and many have expressed that they will be in attendance.
Additional news will be forthcoming in the next few days which will further update the public on this landmark event.
