New Zealand bound: Travis Rilat goes International.

Texas CitY, Tex. (January 27, 2003) - Sprint Car hotshoe Travis Rilat will take his on-track prowess "Down Under" over the next month, as he departs Houston on Tuesday for the 20-hour flight to New Zealand, where he will compete in both 410 Sprint Cars and Midgets.

Rilat, fresh off competing in Tulsa's Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, will be in competition at Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand, in both Sprint Cars and Midgets. Rilat is also slated to compete at Bay Park Speedway in Tauranga and Ruapuna Speedway in Christchurch before his return Stateside on February 25.

The former Rookie of the Year from the All Stars, NCRA Outlaw Sprints and American Sprint Car Series is anxious to compete "Down Under." "I'm really looking forward to racing down there," stated the talkative Texan. "It should be a lot of fun and hopefully we can win a few races while we're there and bring some kind of International Championship back home with us."

Rilat has posted numerous wins in recent years while competing with the ASCS, All Stars and NCRA. None, however, were bigger than his $30,000 triumph over the nation's top wingless drivers in the SCRA's Non-Wing World Championship Ultimate Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, IA, this past August. Charging from deep in the field, the victory came in just Rilat's second non-wing start.

In order for race fans in the States to keep abreast of Rilat's exploits over the next month in New Zealand, Rilat will be sending photos and notes to help keep everyone up to date.
