U.M.A.R.A. United Midget Auto Racing Association ILLINOIS STATE MIDGET CHAMPIONSHIP August 24th, 1996 Series Notes -By Larry Carta ---------------------------------------------------------- 1) Tracy Hines wins Illinois State Midget Championship by winning the 60 lap feature event. The race was green from start to finish. No yellows!!
2) UMARA Point leader Duane Pierson has set three track records this season. He now holds the track record at Grundy County Speedway (Morris, Illinois), Anderson Speedway (Anderson, Indiana), and Galesburg Speedway (Galesburg, Michigan)
3) Car count for the Illinois State Championship, 63 Cars!!!
4) UMARA + ARCA have scheduled an additional event to the schedule. The added race will be held at at Fort Wayne Speedway, Fort Wayne, Indiana on Saturday night, September 21, 1996

7) Bloodlines run strong in UMARA. Two sons of former Indy 500 drivers were part of the weekend field. Johnny Parsons III and Mike Mosley, Jr. JP III's father (who was at this weekends race) was in this years 500 while his grandfather won the 'Greatest Spectacle in Racing' in 1950.
8) Bob East, builder of the renown 'Beast Chassis' was a visitor the past weekend
