Luis Salom's team to complete Moto2 season with one rider

The SAG Racing Team has announced it will compete in the remainder of the Moto2 season with only one rider following the tragic passing of Luis Salom at Barcelona earlier this month.

Salom, 24, was killed in a high-speed crash at Turn 12 at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona, prompting the remainder of the event to take place on Formula 1-style layout of the Spanish track.

The SAG team and its other rider, Jesko Raffin, withdrew from the remainder of the weekend after Salom's death, but it has now confirmed it will be present for this weekend's Assen round with Raffin as its sole rider.

It has decided not to seek a replacement for Salom, and will therefore complete the season as a one-rider operation.

A team statement read: "The SAG Racing Team will continue participating in the MotoGP World Championship to honour Luis Salom.

"The support showed by fans, colleagues, teams, riders, friends and, especially, the courage of the Salom family have allowed us to keep going, and for that reason we will be eternally grateful.

"The team from Barcelona travels to the mythical circuit of Assen, the oldest of the MotoGP World Championship, to face the eighth round of the present campaign only with Jesko Raffin.

"The plan of Edu Perales' squad is to maintain the team with just one rider until the end of the season and fulfill like this the goals set by the Sports-Millions-EMWE-SAG Team of Jesko Raffin."

Swiss rider Raffin, who is contesting his second full Moto2 season, sits 26th in the current standings, having taken a sole points-scoring finish of 14th so far in 2016 at Jerez.
