Alex Marquez will not take part in this weekend's Misano Moto2 race after suffering a violent crash during Friday's opening practice session.
The Marc VDS rider, who sits third in the current standings with two wins to his name this year, was taken to the medical centre after injuring his left hip in a major highside at Turn 8 in the closing moments of the session.
Despite the crash, Marquez finished the session with the fastest time, two tenths clear of championship-leading teammate Franco Morbidelli.
Although it was reported Marquez had fractured his hip in the impact, Marc VDS issued a tweet stating this was not the case, but added that "the impact on his left hip caused internal bleeding and it would be unsafe for him to ride".
The team also said the 21-year-old Spaniard will aim to return to action for the next round of the season at Aragon in two weeks' time.
