Canet, 17, made his grand prix debut last year with the Monlau-run EG 0,0 team headed by former 125cc champion Emilio Alzamora, scoring a sole podium at Phillip Island and finishing 15th in the points.

The Spanish teenager currently lies second in the Moto3 standings in his sophomore campaign, having taken his first career victory at Jerez last month.

While series leader Joan Mir, also in his second year of Moto3, will make the step up to Moto2 next season with the Marc VDS squad, it was confirmed on Wednesday that Canet will contest a third year in the lower category.

“Re-signing with EG 0,0 is really satisfying because it means they trust me and that I’ll be part of this great family for another year – something I think is important to continue my progression as I still have so much left to learn this year," said Canet.

"I have a great opportunity to continue growing as a rider and my goal is to keep working intensely with my team as we have done until now.”

Alzamora added: "Canet is working very well with his technical team and his results confirm that.

"That’s why we believe in continuing to work with the same philosophy and methodology, to fight for the title together in 2018.”
