Peugeot in its release stated it was a mutual decision as Masbou, 29, as per regulations, will not be permitted to continue in Moto3 division next year.

Thus, the new management of the team decided to give a chance to a younger rider, with Arenas getting the nod for the 10th round alongside regular John McPhee.

"After a series of negotiations together with the team’s management and our rider Alexis during the last weeks we came to the conclusion to finish our collaboration as of now," said Terrell Thien, Team manager.

"Alexis experienced a really tough first half of the season form him. He struggled many times to set up the to his comfort which resulted in unpleasant outcomes for him and the team.

"After nine races so far this season his points tally is at zero which of course is hardly to accept for both parties.

"The team’s management as well all staff in Peugeot Motocycles SAXOPRINT wishes Alexis all the best and success for his future career," he added.

The French rider struggled for results, failing to get into terms with the Mahindra bikes, having retired as many as four times in nine races, with 16th his best finish, in America and Germany.

Meanwhile, his replacement Arenas has already competed in three rounds in Jerez (18th), Barcelona (DNF) and Netherlands (DNF) - having filled in for the injured Jorge Martin at Assen.

Peugeot sits fourth with 20 points in the standings, racing under its own brand using the Indian manufacturer's Mahindra MGP3O machinery.
