Assen MotoGP: Miller leads Marquez in rain-affected warm-up

Last year's Dutch TT winner Jack Miller topped the 20-minute warm-up session on Sunday morning at Assen, which saw limited running from the field because of heavy rain.

The conditions were damp at the beginning of the session, allowing the field to join the track on slicks, but a heavy downpour hit the track just a couple of minutes later.

Aspar Ducati's Alvaro Bautista was the only rider to set a time before going back to the pits, his 1m52.113s nearly six seconds slower than Johann Zarco's pole time in a wet qualifying on Saturday.

While most of the session passed by without any running, the field was back on track for the final five minutes.

Bautista's time continued to be the benchmark until the very end, when Miller demoted him with a 1m51.203s. Marc Marquez was just 0.017s adrift, the reigning champion completing a Honda 1-2.

Suzuki's Andrea Iannone was the top non-Honda rider, further six tenths down, with his teammate Alex Rins taking fifth. Bautista dropped to fourth, while Tito Rabat brought the second Marc VDS bike into the top six.

Maverick Vinales, who will only start the race from 11th, was seventh, followed by Pramac Ducati's Scott Redding and KTM's Pol Espargaro.

Valentino Rossi completed the top 10, as only a further five riders set a time in the session.

Factory Ducati riders Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo, the latter seemingly struggling with a bike problem, Zarco and Honda factory rider Dani Pedrosa all completed the warm-up without a time.
