CRT rider Espargaro injured in Saturday afternoon practice crash at Silverstone

Power Electronics Aspar rider broke a finger after a heavy fall.

Aleix Espargaro, Aspar Team ART

Aleix Espargaro has been treated by the MotoGP on-site medical team at the track's Medical Center after a fall off his Power Electronics Aspar. He is now resting and hopes to be able to race on Sunday in the British Grand Prix.

It had been a good day for for Espargaro as he was locked in for qualifying 2 due to his fast laps during the first three practices - two on Friday and the morning one today. “In the morning we did a great job, despite our disadvantage over a track of this distance, and we made it through for Q2," he said.

It was the final afternoon practice when the heavy crash occurred on the Silverstone circuit heading into the Maggots.

“I left the box, arrived at the end of the straight slowly and the rear locked up and it threw me off. It was a real shame the day ended like that, as I think I could have had a good result. The finger is broken and it hurts, as does the neck, so I need to try and get some rest, then we’ll see how I feel tomorrow," said Espargaro.

Now he has to wait out the night with neck pains and the break to his fourth finger on his left hand. In the morning he will have to undergo a medical check-up before being cleared to race.

Espargaro hopes were high to take another victory in the MotoGP CRT category.
