Dovizioso “really frustrated” by “disaster” Aragon race

Ducati rider Andrea Dovizioso was left feeling “really frustrated” after a “disaster” of an Aragon MotoGP race that was blighted by severe front tyre troubles.

Starting from a strong fourth on the grid, the Italian eventually slumped to 11th place at the end of a race in which not a single Ducati bike was able to finish inside the top 10.

Both Dovizioso and his replacement factory teammate Michele Pirro, who came 12th, opted for the medium tyre both front and rear, while most of the frontrunners opted for at least one hard tyre.

“I’m really frustrated to finish 11th, especially after a good Saturday, because I’m very happy how we worked yesterday,” said Dovizioso.

“But after four laps, I had the first feeling that the front didn’t work like it did on Saturday. I couldn’t brake at angle, and I couldn’t carry high speed at maximum angle. After that I lose a bit on the front everywhere, so I couldn’t brake, I couldn’t push, it was a disaster.

“We [still] have to understand if it’s more on the tyre side or on the Ducati side, but I think Ducati and Michelin are in the same situation.

“Both want to fix the problem, so we are working really hard, but for sure we are frustrated, especially when you work really hard on Saturday and you improve the situation.”

Asked whether it was a simple case of the tyre overheating, Dovizioso replied: “Sometimes you take a wrong decision and the temperature goes higher or lower, you have a problem.

“If this happened to us, this is one story. You have to manage the tyres in a better way. But about the temperature of the tyre, it was never so high. So maybe it’s a different situation.”
