Dovizioso urges Michelin to fix tyre vibrations after qualifying issue

Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso says he is concerned about occasional "not perfect" tyres from Michelin after having had his qualifying effort derailed by a vibration.

Dovizioso had to pit at the end of his first out-lap in Q2, and eventually qualified only seventh on a used front tyre.

He explained: "Unfortunately, in the qualifying, I had to stop immediately because the front tyre had a vibration, so I had to change the front tyre and I had to put the used tyre from free practice four - 'cause we didn't have more tyres from the quantity.

"So I couldn't make a normal qualifying like everybody.

"Michelin are trying to do everything, they're working a lot, we have to remember that. But still, from the beginning of the season, some tyres are not perfect."

He added: "They still don't have everything under control - sometimes you have a vibration, on the same spec as the others you had used until now. This is bad because we have a limited quantity.

"If we have more - okay, can happen, no problem, you can change. But... for example, for qualifying, we don't have the new tyre."

The Italian, who finished second last weekend in Austria, highlighted that the occasional faulty tyre has even more ramifications for the race than in qualifying.

"That is bad, but especially for the race, because you have just one tyre normally for the race," Dovizioso continued. "And if that tyre isn't perfect, you can't make the perfect race.

"That's not good for everybody. It's not about us. You have to try to manage and we are worried about that. I think it is something Michelin have to fix."
