Honda boss certain Pedrosa wants to stay
Dani Pedrosa has told the Repsol Honda MotoGP team that he intends to stay put for 2016, according to team boss Livio Suppo.
In the last few days, Pedrosa has emerged as a candidate for replacing Jorge Lorenzo at Movistar Yamaha - and, indeed, some reports have suggested the agreement has already been reached.
However, Suppo has expressed his disbelief at reports that suggested Pedrosa's mind was made up, insisting that he fully expects the Spaniard to remain at Honda.
"Either Dani is a great actor or this report is wrong,” Suppo said. “He has told us his priority is to stay with us, and he is still our priority.
“We have not spoken to anyone but him. In fact, [on Friday] I spoke to his lawyer and he reiterated it was his desire [to stay].”
Speaking to media after qualifying on Saturday, Pedrosa flatly refused to discuss his 2017 plans.
"Today I will not answer questions [about a possible Yamaha switch]," he said. "I already said on Thursday the situation was the same as in Jerez."
Vinales still negotiating
If Pedrosa were to be confirmed at Yamaha, it would come as a shock to the representatives of Maverick Vinales, the other main contender for the seat.
“I don’t believe the story [that Pedrosa has signed for Yamaha] at all, although Yamaha and Pedrosa are, of course, free to sign a contract,” said Vinales' manager Paco Sanchez.
“But we are still negotiating with Yamaha and Suzuki. We still have time to decide whether to go to Yamaha or stay at Suzuki.
“If Maverick has not yet said what he will do, it’s because of contractual reasons that make everything go slower than we would like.”
