Marco Bezzecchi “can’t be completely happy” after MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix

Off the back of an eight-placed finish in the Aragon feature race, Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi feels positive about the bike’s overall improvements and the team’s progress.

Bezzecchi proved his ability to work his way up the pack during Sunday’s race, recovering from 20th on the grid to approach the front of the field, eventually crossing the line in eighth behind Joan Mir and ahead of Fabio Di Giannantonio.

He pulled off a similar feat in Silverstone, climbing up the order until eventually taking race win after race leader Fabio Quartararo retired.

Speaking to media after the race, Bezzecchi said: “I did my best from where I started, and I can’t complain.

“If I watch the positives, of course I’m happy. I’m satisfied from my job and the job of the whole team, because the bike was working really well.

“But of course I can’t be completely happy.”

Speaking to Italian media after therace, he elaborated on his qualifying performance.

“Unfortunately, it’s not like I can only concentrate on the time attack, because I’m practically alone in doing the development, and I have to try some things, I have to give good feedback.

“And so since the beginning of the season, I’ve been carrying this thing around of never being able to do a real time attack in a test.

“It’s not something that is decided by the team or by Aprilia or by me. Unfortunately, this is the situation at the moment.”

Bezzecchi’s team-mate Lorenzo Savadori, who is racing for Aprilia while 2024 champion Jorge Martin recovers from injuries sustained at the start of the season, also offered his thoughts on qualifying.

“It’s not simple to improve in one day of testing these kinds of things,” he said.

“But in general, we need to work also for the qualifying. Maybe we need to reduce, to calm a bit the bike, to work more on the grip of the tyre, with the fresh tyre, so it’s not simple to say.

“But of course, Aprilia and everybody, we work for improving.”

Overall, Bezzecchi felt the Aprilia team were working well towards improving the bike as the MotoGP grid enters into testing at Aragon tomorrow.

“The bike is improving. Of course, we are still suffering in some areas,” he said. “But [I] can’t complain too much. The bike is working better and better day by day.

“The whole factory is working really hard, so their effort is paying off.”
