The Yamaha rider took the top spot away from his compatriot with just under 10 minutes of the session to go with a best time of 1m39.300s - slightly slower than his best time from the opening session, with higher temperatures affecting grip levels, but just over a tenth quicker than Marquez.

Despite his healing little finger, the Repsol Honda rider was right back in the thick of the action, a best time of 1m39.428s going unbeaten for the majority of the session until Lorenzo's late surge.

Iannone's best time of 1m39.511s came after the chequered flag was shown, the Italian moving ahead of Ducati teammate Andrea Dovizioso, who was just fractions slower in his last-ditch effort.

Suzuki rider Aleix Espargaro rounded out the top five, but still holds the second quickest combined time behind Lorenzo, ahead of Pramac Ducati's Danilo Petrucci, LCR Honda man Cal Crutchlow and Pol Espargaro, whose Tech 3 Yamaha suffered a mechanical failure during the session.

The second Suzuki of Maverick Vinales and the Marc VDS Honda of Scott Redding completed a top 10 split by under a second, while Valentino Rossi was only 13th quickest in a session where many riders opted to focus primarily on long runs.
