After dominating the opening test of 2016 at Sepang, the Yamaha rider struggled for most of the test in Australia.

On Friday, Lorenzo finished down in ninth position in a session that included a crash when he was trying to complete a race simulation run.

"Very difficult conditions during the three days," said Lorenzo. "We didn't have a full day to test things properly. It was either very windy or raining, so there were a lot of crashes for that reason.

"Everything went wrong today.

"We didn't have new tyres to test, and the only ones we had we had to use in very cold conditions.

"So everything went wrong today, but the sport has those days where nothing goes right and you have to be patient and wait for the next time."

Lorenzo admitted he did not feel comfortable when going out for a race simulation, and he ended up crashing on the opening lap.

When he had tried to set a flying lap earlier on, the Spaniard was forced to abort the run after Eugene Laverty crashed in front of him.

"My gut feeling was not to continue, I decided to go on to get some laps in, but the track was too cold for the tyres I had," Lorenzo added.

"Nothing went right. So we need patience. As we saw, we were very superior at Sepang and here it was harder. That's the sport and that's life.

"We've had very few good laps because the conditions were very cold. We haven't improved the bike at all and I had a crash and the times were very bad."
