Lorenzo urges Yamaha to allow Jerez test: "I think I deserve it"

Jorge Lorenzo says Yamaha should allow him to test with his new team Ducati in November at Jerez "for the years that we spent together".

Lorenzo will likely make his Ducati debut in the test at Valencia the week after the 2016 season finale, and the Italian marque is also keen on having its new rider take part in test days at Jerez in late November.

However, Lorenzo's contract with current employer Yamaha runs to December 31, and while the Japanese manufacturer is expected to allow Lorenzo to join Ducati for Valencia - where Yamaha itself will field new signing Maverick Vinales - it is currently making no such concessions for the Jerez date.

Asked about the situation at Motegi, Lorenzo said: "Obviously, I would like to make the Jerez test, but it doesn't depend on myself, no?

"For the moment, it looks like I will test at Valencia, even if I still don't have authorisation to do it. Looks like for Jerez, Yamaha is not so keen to permit that. We'll see what happens."

Lorenzo, who has been a Yamaha works rider in the premier class of grand prix racing since 2008 and has won three world titles in that time, hopes his long tenure and record of success with the marque will lead to Yamaha reconsidering its stance.

"I think, for the years that we spent together, I deserve it... and for the things that we got together.

"But obviously it doesn't depend on myself and I will respect whatever decision Yamaha makes because I am a Yamaha rider."
