As it has every season since 2002 the Gran Premio de la Comunidad Valenciana brings the curtain down on the MotoGP season this weekend, with the fifth race in just six weeks completing a frenetic finale to the campaign. The fourth round of the season to take place on Spanish soil will decide whether a home favourite can complete the country's domination of the intermediate class, with Mapfre Aspar rider Julian Simon looking to wrap up the runner-up spot this Sunday. So far the only Spanish race that has seen a home winner was Jerez, giving the locals even more reason to push hard for the last available win of the season.

There are plenty of other reasons for the Mapfre Aspar team to look forward to the race, with Julian Simon aiming for a repeat of his heartstopping 125cc victory from last year. He currently lies second in the championship with a six-point cushion over Andrea Iannone although he is still looking for his first win of the campaign. His team-mate Mike Di Meglio is keen to make up for his failure to qualify for the race in Portugal and repay the faith shown in him by the team and its sponsors over the last two years.

Julian Simon:
"To arrive in Valencia lying second in the Moto2 championship gives me a lot of strength. I really can't wait to race in front of the fans at Cheste and I want to get a good result for them. I am happy because we are getting to know the bike more and more but we just need to take that final step and win a race. My objective is to tie up the runner-up spot in the championship by any means necessary. It has been a busy season for us but we have passed every test with flying colours and that is positive as we start to plan for 2011. Cheste is a circuit I like and we have plenty of data because we tested there not long ago. I won there last year too and I think all the factors are in place for us to have a top race on Sunday."

Mike Di Meglio:
"Thankfully the Grand Prix of Portugal is behind us now and we can look ahead to one of the nicest rounds of the season in Valencia, the home of my team. Our slip up in Portugal is in the past and now we have to focus on getting the right result this weekend. I am going to put all my energy into getting a good result to dedicate to my team. I want to thank Jorge, the team and all the sponsors for backing me and for giving me the best possible material during this time."
