Marco Melandri has been confirmed as the seventh Honda rider for 2005. The young Italian and former 250cc World Champion will ride alongside Sete Gibernau under the Telefonica-MovieStar garage.
The Italian who is replacing Colin Edwards said "I'm excited to become part of this team, which is more than a team for me - it is a family. We have worked hard to reach this agreement and now that we made it I'm happy. I'm motivated and ready for this new challenge; I look forward to it and would like to start as soon as possible".
Melandri will get his first chance to ride the mighty V5 later this month in Jerez during the team's three-day test session.
With Melandri's confirmation at Honda, this leaves only one spot open under a competitive team, Yamaha. If rumors are true, this slot will go to Ruben Xaus provided he manages to leave the D'Antin team.
