Mon feeling Ètait mauvais líavant et je ne pouvais donc pas piloter normalement. Cíest pour cela que jíÈtais 10e sur la grille. Je pense que les conditions humides míont aidÈ aujourdíhui et je suis vraiment content díÍtre vice-champion. Jíaurais prÈfÈrÈ Ítre champion, mais cíest le meilleur rÈsultat que je pouvais obtenir aujourdíhui."
Alex Barros (West Honda Pons-Michelin) semblait capable de viser la victoire mais termine finalement 4e, 19 secondes de Rossi et un peu plus díune seconde devant son coÈquipier Capirossi. Ce dernier devance Norick Abe (Antena 3 Yamaha- d'Antin-Michelin) de deux dixiËmes.
Alex CrivillÈ (Repsol YPF Honda-Michelin) est 7e devant Jose Luis Cardoso (Antena 3 Yamaha-d'Antin-Michelin). Shinya Nakano (Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3-Michelin) termine 9e. Il est le dernier pilote ne pas síÍtre fait prendre un tour. Il avait chutÈ dans la premiËre manche aprËs la chute díOlivier Jacque (Gauloises Yamaha Tech 3-Michelin) qui a chutÈ devant lui.
Ce Grand Prix Ètait le dernier avant líarrivÈe des quatre-temps en catÈgorie reine en 2002.
