MotoGP breaks attendance records in 2025; only two circuits see decrease

MotoGP reached a historic milestone in 2025, drawing more than 3.6 million fans to races around the world to set a new all-time attendance record.

After surpassing three million spectators last year, the championship climbed to a new level of popularity in 2025, helped by an expanded 22-round calendar.

Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta gave a very positive assessment of the situation at the end of the year.

"This season has been extraordinary, with record-breaking audience figures and unforgettable races,” he said. “The 3.6 million mark shows how much MotoGP is growing globally without losing its roots. Valencia was the perfect ending."

Positive start to the year

From the very beginning of the season, it was clear that 2025 had the potential to be a record-breaking year. Buriram opened the campaign with 224,634 spectators, an increase of around 19,000 compared to the previous year. 

Termas de Rio Hondo marked MotoGP’s return to South America after a one-year absence and proved a major success, drawing almost 209,000 fans.

Even in Austin, where organisers didn't release full daily attendance figures, internal estimates suggested that around 125,000 fans attended the Americas GP, comfortably exceeding the previous year's total. Losail, traditionally a more modestly-attended race, also saw significant growth.

Traditional European circuits post strong attendance figures

The positive trend continued when the championship moved to Europe, with several traditional circuits posting particularly strong numbers.

A total of 224,420 spectators flocked to Jerez for the Spanish circuit, marking the highest attendance in years for the track and an increase of more than 43,000 fans compared to 2024. 

Mugello and Misano also confirmed their statuses as some of MotoGP’s best-selling events. Meanwhile, Assen, nicknamed the 'cathedral of motorcycling', achieved a new milestone this year, surpassing 200,000 fans for the first time in history.

Similarly, the Sachsenring race proved to be a huge hit, cementing its reputation as one of the most-attended sporting events in Germany with 256,441 fans.

MotoGP’s return to Brno, one of the championship’s most iconic venues, was met with an overwhelming response. A total of 219,544 spectators attended the Czech Grand Prix, underlining the series’ continued popularity in the region.

Barcelona welcomed more than 187,000 fans, its highest attendance since 2008, while Portimao set a record of its own with 183,102 spectators.

But the largest crowd of the season was recorded at the French Grand Prix, with 311,797 people flocking through the gates at Le Mans. That figure made the event not only the most-attended race of 2025, but the biggest in MotoGP history.

South East Asia remains a major growth engine

Outside of Europe, the South East Asian markets experienced a significant boom in 2025. Mandalika, which made its debut just four years ago in 2022, attracted 140,324 fans over the course of the Indonesian GP weekend.

Japan also saw a significant increase this year, with just over 90,000 people attending the race. Additionally, Phillip Island and Sepang experienced modest growth.

After severe flooding forced MotoGP to move last year’s finale to Barcelona, the Valencia GP returned in full force this year - and with it, the fans. A total of 205,319 spectators attended the event, an increase of more than 70,000 compared to last year’s Solidarity GP.

Two tracks register losses in 2024

Despite the overall growth, two circuits saw a year-on-year decline in attendance, with both Silverstone and Spielberg recording lower figures than in 2024.

In Austria, the capacity was limited for safety reasons, while weather changes and infrastructure problems contributed to the decline at the British Grand Prix.

Hungary’s return to MotoGP at the new Balaton Park Circuit also fell short of expectations, with just 80,105 spectators attending the race. Only the Qatar GP witnessed fewer fans than Hungary.
