MotoGP Czech GP: Marc Marquez wins at Brno as title rival Alex Marquez crashes

Marc Marquez claimed his eighth grand prix win of the season, including his fifth on the bounce, to extend his MotoGP championship lead over brother Alex, who crashed out early on at Brno

Marc Marquez continued his domination of the 2025 MotoGP campaign by claiming victory  at the Czech Grand Prix, while brother Alex crashed out.

The factory Ducati rider claimed his 70th MotoGP win at Brno Circuit with Marc Marquez now romping towards a seventh world title.

He fended off a challenge from Marco Bezzecchi who finished second, with Pedro Acosta completing the podium as polesitter Francesco Bagnaia dropped to fourth.

Even though the Italian led off the line, team-mate Marc soon challenged and attempted a repeat of his move from the sprint race at Turn 3 on the opening tour.

Bagnaia was wise to it this time, however, and managed to get the cut back on Marquez to regain the lead.

But the man on a charge was Bezzecchi, who snatched second off Marquez heading into Turn 5. The Aprilia rider showed excellent pace and soon Bezzecchi took the lead from Bagnaia.

Bagnaia was clearly struggling, as he ran wide at Turn 13 and Bezzecchi didn't need another invitation to take the lead. Pulling out of the Italian’s slipstream down the start-finish straight, Bezzecchi led the field with a clean move into Turn 1 at the start of lap two.

Soon, Marquez also overtook Bagnaia on the second lap and set his sights on Bezzecchi. It was on lap eight when the Spaniard made his move, as Marquez overtook approaching Turn 3 and from there on, it was his race and took the chequered flag unchallenged.

Behind, Bezzecchi had his hands full seeing off the KTM of Acosta for the rest of the race. The Italian's second place looked under threat for a moment, but the Aprilia soon stretched its legs to secure the runner-up spot ahead of Acosta, who took KTM's first main race podium of 2025.

Bagnaia, meanwhile, could only manage fourth. Acosta slipped past on his factory KTM during lap three and the two-time world champion had no answer. Bagnaia put in some late push laps towards the end of the race to close up on the orange bike, but it was too little, too late.

Fifth place went to Raul Fernandez on the Trackhouse Aprilia, while Fabio Quartararo faded much like he did in the sprint race, as the Yamaha rider finished sixth after starting from third.

Reigning champion Jorge Martin delivered a super performance upon his return to the MotoGP paddock to bring home seventh place on the second factory Aprilia.

Fermin Aldeguer, Brad Binder, and Jack Miller were in their own close little battle on the fringes of the top 10. Aldeguer and Binder were eighth and ninth by the end, while Pol Espargaro got the better of Miller on the last lap to take 10th.

However, Aldeguer then received a post-race three-second penalty, meaning he dropped to 11th so Binder, Espargaro and Miller all gained a place.

Alex Marquez and Joan Mir were the first retirements of the race, as Alex attempted a move on Mir at Turn 12 but went down, taking the luckless Mir off with him. Something which earned the Gresini Ducati rider a long lap penalty for the next race in Austria.

Enea Bastianini was the other DNF when he went down from fourth on lap seven. He had been charging up the field and looked set to challenge for the podium when his race came to a premature end.

It all leaves Marc Marquez with a 120-point championship lead over Alex in second and there are now just 10 weekends left in the 2025 campaign.
